interchangeable
You are interchangeable.
Fun, free, and into everything, you've got every
eventuality covered and every opportunity just
has to be taken. Every fiber is wonderful, and
every day is a new beginning. You are good at
so many things, it's amazing, but you can
easily lose your place and forget to show up.
They have row counters for people like you!

What kind of knitting needles are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Thought that was worth sharing.

So I was going to start my RC book scarf in time to have it finished for the release of HBP (THIS Friday!! Heck yes!). I'm all set - I've got my yarn (and am loving the contrast of the book colors - I don't know WHAT the movie costume director was thinking of when he/she changed it to blue and silver). I've got my pattern printed out and ready to go. I've read the directions a few times and am confident that I'll know what to do in the highly likely event that the pattern disappears into the abyss of my bedroom. And then I take a good, hard look at my circular needle collection. And I realize that I have a very big problem. My circs are all at the very least 30". Sweater and blanket circs. I'm not prancing around in a 15" wide scarf - dream on. And I don't like the look of straight knit scarves, given their tendency to curl at the edges. Straight knitting, folding, and seaming just doesn't offer the seamless, streamline look that I want. So NOW I have to go down to the city this weekend and pick up an appropriately sized Addi Turbo circ in 14 or 16 inches. Which means... this is now a HP Movie scarf.

I told you that whole story to ask you this question: Should I save my bookRC yarn for the release of book 7 and instead make a movie-matched RC scarf? Or should I give a big "Up Yours!" to Warner Bros. and wear the book colors anyhow?

This week...

current song: Sondre Lerche - "Is It Okay If I Call You Mine?"

Well, two days ago was my birthday (the same as Dobby's - who knew?!) and so I recieved a bit of cash to afford my yarn habits. Currently on the needles is a soft baby yellow baby blanket for new cousin Gabriel Hunter. I'm looking forward to doing that on a lengthy set of circulars - I find it to be relatively mindless with the added perk of a few SPPOs to keep me interested.

Meanwhile, I was in Waldenbooks, when suddenly I found a Knitting Mystery novel. Could life be better? I think not! At first I was enchanted with Agatha Christie's Jane Marple series (I still am, by the way. Enchanted, that is.) but than I saw a novel entitled Knit One, Murder Two. Well! I screamed, I won't lie. My dear friend Keri came racing over as fast as she could, thinking a lethal paper cut had occured, or perhaps a high stack of books had fallen on me. But no - it was just a knitting murder. Took my breath away. I'm going to start reading it today, and I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

The backstory to my curious knitting habit.

The summer of the O.J. Simpson trial, I was staying at my grandmother's house in Tennessee. Gammy was glued to the television set, and my mornings spent out on the front porch swing with a brightly colored plastic cup full of cereal were punctuated with "He's guilty!! Guilty as sin!" from the living room. (And really, who doesn't think that he was?)

With this somewhat unhealthy addiction to the Simpson trial, I quickly became a nuisance to Gam when I had run out of things to do. I was bored. She needed something easy to teach that would keep my quiet and have a noticable result, sothat I didn't think that my time was being wasted. (My budding skills on the organ were frowned upon - very loud, and a constant interruption to the trial). So she grabbed a pair of needles and a ball of soft, pink, worsted yarn and showed me how to knit. I think she still has that dishrag. The summer that I left, I quit knitting. There were no needles and yarn laying around my house back in Texas, and not many people in Texas actually need to knit, especially in South Texas. Would you wear a scarf to the surface of the sun? No? Then you certainly won't need one in Bay City.

Then, my 9th grade year, we moved to New York, and suddenly I was in dire need of warm goodies. Simultaneously, I became enchanted with Harry Potter.Throughout high school, I only crocheted - for me, it was far easier than knitting. But I just didn't like the resulting product as much. So my senior year, there was an estate sale nearby, and my mother and I swindled a $200 stock of needles and knitting books for I think $5. Then, it began. I have been knitting since, and am easily spotted in the OSU library looking out the window and working on one of the several afghans that I have cast on.

In summary - does anyone speak fluent German? Because I have a knitting book in German that I really want the patterns from... alas, can not read them. I will even GIVE you the book, as long as you translate it for me to use.

current song: "For Good" - Wicked, the musical

What is this? Well... what isn't it? This is a multi-purpose live journal, logging both updates on the website (rare!) and updates to my yarn projects.

Currently, I'm working on knitting a ribbed scarf using baby yarn (pale green, with yellow and blue bars) in rehearsal for the HP scarf that I anticipate finishing before HBP comes out. That scarf will be Ravenclaw, and is only waiting on my visiting nearby NYC to pick up a few good circular needles and the Plymouth Encore yarn that I've been lusting over. YarnLust... my best enemy.

Therefore, the entry is ended with an open ended question. Because my Ravenclaw scarf will be for HalfBloodPrince, I feel that it should be in the book Ravenclaw colors, as Rowling envisioned. But is there a less hideous blue/orange combo? Help!
